Direct Counsel

is seeking a talented

Mid‑Level Associate

to join the

Construction Law Practice Group

of a leading law firm in

Chicago . This is an exciting opportunity for a business litigation attorney with a technical or engineering background who’s ready to dive into sophisticated construction law matters and grow within a dynamic, nationally recognized practice.

If you’re a detail‑oriented litigator with strong analytical skills and an interest in the intersection of law, construction, and design, this role offers both challenge and advancement.

About the Role The

Associate

will handle a broad range of complex construction‑related litigation and transactional matters, including contract disputes, delay and impact claims, defect and insurance issues, and representation of design professionals. You’ll also assist senior attorneys in managing large‑scale discovery, analyzing technical data, and advising clients on risk management and contract strategy.

This role offers hands‑on experience, direct client exposure, and the opportunity to develop subject‑matter expertise in one of the most dynamic areas of business law.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Construction Law Practice Group in all phases of litigation and dispute resolution.

Manage document review and e‑discovery in cases involving complex technical data.

Draft and argue motions, assist in depositions, and participate in trial preparation.

Handle matters involving

delay and impact claims, mechanics lien claims, surety bond claims, and construction defect disputes.

Assist in negotiating and drafting

design and construction agreements.

Analyze insurance coverage related to construction and design claims.

Represent clients in both

state and federal courts .

Work directly with clients, engineers, and contractors on high‑value projects.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (JD)

from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.

2+ years

of recent experience in business litigation; prior

construction law exposure.

Licensed to practice in Illinois.

Background in

engineering, architecture, or other technical disciplines

is highly desirable.

Experience with

document management, e‑discovery, and large data sets.

Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively on complex matters.

Deposition, pretrial, or trial experience.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range:

$130,000 – $200,000 annually (commensurate with experience).

Bonus Potential:

Up to

$80,000

based on performance.
