The Construction Accounting Manager serves as a key business partner to operating units, acting as the liaison between accounting and operations at the regional level. Each operating unit utilizes regional accounting support differently, and the specific responsibilities vary based on their needs. This role also provides assistance to the Regional Controller as required.
Month-End Close Responsibilities:
Complete and support the month-end checklist for assigned operating units
Record general ledger adjustments (depreciation, prepaid items, etc.)
Record insurance entries, rebate transactions, intercompany transactions, and bad debt reserves
Review indirect and SGA accounts for unusual or excessive activity
Attend monthly cost-to-complete meetings and record project adjustments prior to close
Prepare and record project-related accruals (service revenue, uninstall material, production revenue, etc.)
Record over/under billed and absorbed amounts
Run WIP and contract profit reports, reconcile to the general ledger, and review with the Regional Controller
Ensure compliance with all closing dates and approved control procedures
Perform account reconciliations and manage the balance of all GL accounts (AR, AP, other receivables, etc.)
Reconcile project costs to the general ledger
Audit & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including payroll and other applicable taxes
Support development and implementation of inventory control procedures
Manage fixed assets, including additions and disposals
Assist with operating lease, vehicle, and trailer tracking
Monitor and communicate company charge account activity (credit cards, fuel cards, store accounts, etc.)
Support internal and external audits, including IRS and corporate reviews
Training & Support:
Train and support accounting staff within the operating units
Maintain and assist with checklists and trackers
Prepare bi-monthly forecasts
Provide backup support to regional and operating unit staff
Assist the Regional Controller with acquisitions
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
Job costing experience in a construction or manufacturing environment preferred
Strong understanding of in-house payroll processes and payroll tax reporting
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to lead, train, and motivate team members
Experience managing organizational change
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Willingness to travel as needed
Adaptable and responsive to the varying needs of supported teams
Compensation: $120,000 per year
