Grant Accountant (Temp-to-Hire)
Location: Savannah, GA (not remote or hybrid)
Pay rate: $27.00 – $31.00 per hour, based on experience.
Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
Contract type: Temp-to-Hire. Progression based on attendance, performance, and business need.
On‑site parking fee up to $105 per month.
Focus People is urgently seeking a highly meticulous Grant Accountant for a critical and (potentially) long‑term opportunity within the Controller’s Office of a prominent education system. This position is vital for managing the financial compliance and reporting for a significant volume of primarily federal grants (e.g., National Science Foundation, Department of Education).
Key Responsibilities
Perform detailed monthly reconciliations of grant accounts, utilizing Excel extensively, and monitor expenditure rates.
Manage the full cycle of invoicing and financial reporting to Federal funding agencies for reimbursable expenses.
Review and approve financial transactions (check requests, travel, procurement) using the PeopleSoft system, ensuring compliance with university and federal policies.
Provide guidance to department Principal Investigators (PIs) on spending regulations for sponsored funds.
Set up new grant award portfolios and manage through final closeout.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field.
Two (2) years of related work experience in general accounting or financial management.
Strong understanding of general accounting principles and practices, including proficiency with debits, credits, the balance sheet, and journal entries.
Important: The client is highly motivated to hire and willing to train on specific grant compliance rules (Uniform Guidance, etc.) for candidates who possess excellent core accounting skills and demonstrated reconciliation ability. Candidates with a general accounting background and interest in public sector finance are strongly encouraged to apply.
