Position Overview The Department is seeking a dedicated individual to serve in the correctional center's dietary operations. The ideal candidate will help monitor dietary workers, review policies and procedures for compliance, and maintain accurate inventory records. We strongly encourage all qualified candidates to apply.

Essential Functions

Monitors individuals in custody in preparation and serving of food for individuals in custody and in maintaining equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

Monitors individuals in custody in clean-up and sanitation procedures for kitchen equipment and facilities.

Inspects food before, during, and after cooking to ensure proper preparation in compliance with recipes and menus.

Maintains inventory and records of food items used and their expiration dates.

Monitors daily activities of individuals in custody, allowing food supplies, tools, and cleaning supplies to be properly issued and accounted for.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.

Requires two (2) years of experience in food preparation in large-scale food operation.

Requires possession of a current Food Service Sanitation Certificate issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health or possession of a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification from a program accredited by ANSI CFP.

Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the state requirements for this classification.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefers at least three (3) years of experience performing access control, space assignment, equipment handling, or inventory management.

Prefers at least two (2) years of experience communicating effectively using both verbal and written skills in relaying specific job instructions.

Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience ordering supplies, processing invoices, and distributing materials to work locations.

Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in a professional setting applying elementary knowledge of professional accounting, auditing, and/or inventory methods and procedures.

Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in a professional setting performing detailed work involving written or numerical data.

Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel, or similar software.

Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience with the SAP platform.

Conditions of Employment

Requires completion of an orientation-training course within six (6) months of employment.

Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.

Requires utilization of digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency and transformation efforts within the department.
