Position Summary The employee(s) hired for this position will serve as part of a temporary pool of reserve Police Officers for UNC Asheville. As a central part of the university community, the mission of University Police is to contribute to and promote the greater mission of UNC Asheville by facilitating a safe, secure and service‑oriented environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Patrolling the geographic jurisdiction of UNC Asheville campus.
Conducting criminal investigations and crime‑prevention activities.
Assisting motorists, managing parking/traffic control.
Providing security at special events.

Minimum Education / Experience / Skills
High school diploma or equivalency.
Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission, or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.
Preferred Education / Experience / Skills
Current possession of North Carolina BLET Certification.
At least two years of campus law‑enforcement experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Possession of a designated level of technical skill or knowledge in a specific technical area(s) and the ability to keep up with current developments and trends.
Ability to present information to individuals or groups, deliver presentations suited to the audience, and convey information clearly and concisely.
Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others.
Understanding of the organization’s mission and how to work with other work units to serve the customer/client.
Ability to identify problems, determine possible solutions, and work to resolve issues.
Work Schedule and Hours This is a temporary, part‑time, reserve officer position. Up to 40 hours per week based on departmental needs.

Special Instructions to Applicants Position requires certification as a law‑enforcement officer in accordance with the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year. Valid driver's license required at the time of application and prior to appointment. Candidates must undergo extensive background investigation including psychological evaluation, medical exam, and drug screening. Skill demonstrations may be asked of all applicants interviewed. All positions are temporary and will vary in length of time. You may choose to withdraw your application from this pool at any time.
