The Impact You Will Have Reporting to the Midwest Zone Leader – Inland Marine, this position will underwrite profitable new and renewal business to meet the inland marine line of business targets in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority. You will negotiate price, terms and conditions, own accounts, and develop and maintain strong relationships with producers and clients in partnership with Market Management.
Responsibilities
Participate in the development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for LoB(s). Work closely with Market Management, Claims, and other product lines to achieve key marketing strategies, including cross‑selling.
Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom‑line targets. Negotiate price and terms and conditions with producers and proactively manage capacity. Underwrite and evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation and International Insurance Programs for relevant LOBs.
Represent AzC externally to the market. Drive involvement of functional areas in Underwriting, including MMC, ARC, Claims, and Operations. Maintain relationships with key producers, clients, and risk managers.
Ensure accurate policy documentation issued to producers or producers oversee it. File maintenance – establish and maintain each risk and transaction file. Support policy administration and credit control processes.
Support acquisition of new business and retention of existing business, including client and producer negotiations. Liaise with MMC on market management initiatives.
Participate in key projects, train and develop underwriters, and serve as a referral point within the underwriter community.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
A minimum of 7 years’ proven track record in underwriting profitable inland marine business, deep product knowledge, and understanding of regional/local markets and competitors.
Established relationships with brokers at peer group level within the local market.
Experience as an underwriter or account executive across inland marine products such as construction, transportation, miscellaneous coverages, and property (e.g., builder’s risk, contractor’s equipment, motortruck cargo, physical damage, mono line property and scheduled floaters).
A bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Business Administration, Finance or Economics and a professional insurance qualification.
Ability to assess risk exposures and natural hazards for the Line of Business, manage the underwriting books, analyze trends and scenario plans, and benchmark performance.
Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex data and resolve issues before they arise.
Excellent written and verbal communication, ability to persuade and motivate without executive authority.
Proficiency in general office tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
Willingness to use AI tools to support tasks and enhance decision‑making.

Annualized base pay: $125,366 – $195,190. Actual salary may be higher based on scope, complexity, location, and candidate experience. Base pay is one component of the total compensation package, which includes annual performance‑based cash incentive awards.
