The Commercial Sourcing Advisor’s primary responsibility is to support the development, management, and execution of strategic sourcing initiatives. This is done by managing assigned categories of spend and executing strategic initiatives/projects within the category to deliver value to the business. The successful candidate should be a self‑starter with a strategic mindset, able to conduct market analysis, analyse proposals using a total cost of ownership methodology, and establish strategic business relationships with key suppliers. The ideal candidate would be able to thrive in a dynamic environment where needs are both planned and unplanned. This role supports the MPLX business, MPC’s sponsored master limited partnership. MPLX transports, stores, distributes, and markets crude oil and refined products via refining logistics assets, pipelines, terminals, towboats, and barges; gather, process and transport natural gas; and gather, transport, fractionate, store and market natural gas liquids.
What You’ll Do – Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing:
Develop overarching market strategies for assigned material and/or service categories of spend.
Build and maintain relationships with key 3rd‑party vendors and ensure service, commercial terms, and performance optimization while fostering innovation and collaboration.
Develop and implement MPLX sourcing strategies, including project charters and decision summaries based on sourcing event and negotiations outcomes.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders (operations, maintenance, engineering, reliability, category management, etc.) to ensure strategies align with business needs and priorities.
Market and Industry Analysis:
Analyse and interpret data for use in decision‑making and actions in support of business strategy, including TCO and should‑cost modelling.
Perform root‑cause analysis related to supply challenges or disruptions.
Stay current on industry trends, market conditions, and commodity pricing to inform sourcing decisions.
Negotiations:
Lead the preparation and negotiation of terms and conditions related to pricing, service levels, and commercial terms.
Manage related rate sheets and ensure cost competitiveness across vendor categories within the enterprise and across the industry.
Cross‑functional Collaboration and Communication:
Clearly and succinctly convey information to individuals or groups in a compelling and focused way to foster engagement.
Promote inclusivity and ownership across business units to help achieve collective goals.
Leverage others’ skills and gain support while asking for ideas and participation when solving problems, making decisions, and carrying out plans.
Lead without authority, inspiring others through expertise, strong communication and a structured approach, while earning trust and buy‑in.
Relationship Management:
Facilitate issue resolution related to supplier performance, developing awareness of associated operating risks, and qualifying contractors to assure appropriate criteria are adequately addressed.
Develop and maintain relationships with key 3rd‑party vendors to ensure service, commercial terms, and optimal leverage. As needed, develop and track KPIs for measuring performance for key vendors.
Lead supplier relationship management process with 3rd‑party vendors and key internal stakeholders.
Value Creation:
Actively seek and identify opportunities for value creation (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement, innovation, reliability and risk reduction).
Develop and execute cost savings and strategic sourcing projects while ensuring business continuity and high level of supplier performance.
Manage assigned business unit(s) to optimise the supply base and deliver financial benefit. Collaborate with Category Management regarding key supplier initiatives.
Education and Experience
Minimum 4–6 years of supply chain or business‑related experience.
Bachelor’s degree required. Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Marketing, Business, Science or related field preferred.
General midstream oil and gas industry, project management, and construction experience will be given additional consideration.
Experience supporting instrumentation and electrical categories from both a materials/equipment and labor perspective will be given additional consideration.
