Position Overview
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in NC A&T State University invites applications for a full-time, post‑doctoral research associate position in Autonomous Vehicles, Robotics, Perception, Control, and Navigation. The applicant is expected to have a strong theoretical and experimental background with evidence of skills related to transportation technologies, control of autonomous vehicles, sensing, perception, and artificial intelligence. This is a non‑tenure‑track, year‑to‑year appointment, renewable annually for up to two years subject to satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the Department. We look for applicants with a demonstrated track record in the application of multi‑agent systems. Programming and practical experience with embedded real‑time systems are desired.
In this role the employee will conduct research on sensor fusion, perception, and control of autonomous vehicles for various applications such as transportation systems, self‑driving vehicles, and autonomous ground and air vehicles. The employee will be a member of the ACCESS Laboratory, supporting projects through original research, collaboration with team members, and mentoring of students. The employee will also contribute to additional proposal efforts, thereby strengthening N.C. A&T State University's ability to attract external funding.
The employee will exercise a considerable amount of independent judgment and original thinking in carrying out research that contributes to original knowledge and advances the University's reputation. The employee will publish research results in recognized journals, share student mentoring with research team members, and participate in departmental seminars and other professional activities as assigned. The candidate will also work with graduate and undergraduate students in a mentoring role, and will be involved in conducting workshops and seminars.
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. awarded within the last five years in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related area, specializing in Control and Robotics.
A strong theoretical and experimental background with evidence of skills related to autonomous vehicle technology and transportation technology.
Good skills in writing scientific papers and technical reports.
High level of initiative and ability to multitask involving different research problems.
Good organizational skills; detail oriented.
Demonstrated integrity, dependability, and competence.
Ability to work independently requiring minimal supervision.
Strong oral communication and facilitation skills for presentations.
Strong critical thinking, analytical, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training, and Education
Experience with ROS.
Experience with Autoware.
Good programming skills such as Python, C++, and ROS.
Experience with development and deployment of AI models.
Knowledge and experience with computer vision.
Experience with edge devices.
Experience with high‑performance computing systems.
Project management skills.
