This position is part of the Kern Community College District’s part‑time, hourly faculty pool. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be contacted as opportunities arise. Applications remain active for up to two years.
Representative Duties
Teach assignments at Bakersfield Community College main campus, Delano Campus, Arvin (hub and high school), City Serve, Job Spot, McFarland (adult learning center and high school), Shafter (learning center and high school), Southwest Campus, and Wasco (adult education center and high school).
Provide instruction through day or evening classes, weekend sessions, large classes, distance learning, and multiple teaching methodologies.
Maintain subject‑matter currency and develop/revise curriculum.
Utilize computer and multimedia technology.
Participate in collegial activities, departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional engagements.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in fine arts, art, or art history.
OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND a Master’s in humanities.
OR equivalent education, experience, and accomplishments; submit an Application for Equivalency with supporting documents.
A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community‑college students.
All degrees must be from accredited institutions; foreign degrees from the U.S. or abroad must be evaluated by an accredited credential‑evaluation service.
Knowledge & Abilities
Work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues to promote innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
Work with students of varied skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
Develop curriculum, including delivery via different modalities.
Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Maintain subject‑matter currency.
Assess student learning outcomes.
Use computers and explore new technologies beneficial to the program.
Commit to the California community‑college mission.
