Primary Duties and Responsibilities Position purpose:

Under the direction of the Director of Visual Media, the Video Editor is a digitally-savvy and technically-creative individual who can edit a range of content, from short-form stories and alumni/student/faculty profiles to marketing social media shorts, advertising spots, digital series and broadcast documentaries. The Video Editor is highly experienced with all phases of post-production including cutting-edge editing techniques, color correction, titling, finishing, packaging and exporting. This role is responsible for editing a variety of video content to appear on different outlets in support of internal and external communications efforts that serve larger marketing and institutional goals.

Essential Functions:

Practice skilled and efficient video editing utilizing a variety of raw footage and other assets to create highly-engaging, audience-centric content that enhances storytelling across the University. Edit and assemble final video content, including selecting scenes, color correction, audio mixing, transitions, special effects, graphics, narration, voiceover, background music, and brand each video consistently by the University’s brand standards. Maintain consecutive ongoing projects, communicating consistently with supervisors and project managers and delivering edits as assigned by assigned deadlines and within budget.

Develop multimedia (audio/video) content for news, features, profiles, internal announcement videos, external promotional and social videos, as well as longer form documentaries, commercials and other enterprise-wide video projects. Produce projects for varying platforms (TV/Digital/Social Media/Web/Email). Ensure creative products are in compliance with copyright, ADA and other requirements.

Collaborate with UMAC teammates, internal clients and University stakeholders to help facilitate the creation of video content. Translates organizational or client goals into strategic media deliverables.

Responsible for organizing and archiving footage and equipment. Monitor and report the need for repair of equipment; recommend equipment upgrades.

Assist in planning related to all content marketing and storytelling. Identify and prepare locations and sets to ensure optimal recording environments. Apply videography, production, and post-production skills in the management and execution of video shoots.

Required Experience

Minimum 1-3 years professional video editing experience.

Experience with DSLR cameras and a strong knowledge of cinematographic techniques.

Demonstrated skills and experience in video editing including image manipulation, color correction and color grading techniques using Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere and AfterEffects on Apple Mac computers.

Superior understanding of storytelling, both visually and narratively.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with concurrent assignments.

Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Preferred Experience

Familiarity with copyright regulations and privacy laws.

Familiarity with higher education.

Experience in design or motion graphics, layout and/or computer-generated animation.

Required Education Bachelor's degree or the equivalent with extensive coursework in related field such as film, broadcast journalism, communications, etc.
