Salary Range: $65,000.00 - $101,000.00 The Communications Officer will work with the leadership team across the Department of Anesthesiology to develop and produce strategic content promoting their research, education, and clinical programs and services to internal and external audiences. Reporting to Administrative Operations Manager, this individual will play an integral role in increasing the visibility of Yale's nationally ranked and top-rated Anesthesiology program and in fostering positive faculty, staff, and trainee relations. The role will help develop, coordinate, and implement a communications strategy for the Department of Anesthesiology. Duties include but are not limited to maintaining the Anesthesiology website and digital and social media platforms with new content; preparing articles and images for the content management system; copy editing and proofreading; and writing short articles and announcements. Required Skills and Abilities
1: Independent self-starter with outstanding written (editing/writing), verbal, and organizational skills and ability to develop interesting content suitable for web and non-web-based distribution, including annual reports. 2: Proficiency with web/intranet content management systems and HTML editing tools, social media platforms (including Brandwatch), Salesforce, survey building tools, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva (or other image creating/editing software), and electronic mailing list software applications (Listserv). Familiarity with desktop publishing and layout programs such as Adobe's Creative Suite and ability to identify and learn new technology, including Yale School of Medicine's content management platform, Beatrix. 3: Knowledge in developing, disseminating, and maintaining web content, and in gathering and extracting from analytics to inform content decisions. 4: Ability to develop relationships with faculty and other departmental stakeholders to develop content for distribution and manage the department's website and social media platforms. 5: Significant experience with, or very strong interest in science and medicine content. Preferred Skills and Abilities
1. Master's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field, with proven experience in public/media relations. 2. Proficiency with video editing software and graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite. 3. Familiarity with content management systems (e.g., Drupal, WordPress) and social media platforms. 4. Experience in higher education or healthcare communications, with a focus on developing and disseminating web content. 5. Strong project management experience, including managing web and social media content creation and maintenance. Principal Responsibilities
1. Brand & Communications Strategy. Develops and executes public relations strategy, output, and performance for the department with the goal of increasing media impressions in local, national, industry-specific and alumni media. Creates communications strategy to showcase top technologies available for license. Ensures consistent look and tone for all department communications, including written content, website and social media. 2. Media Relations. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with media representatives. Identifies opportunities to work with other the departments, university publications and the Office of Public Affairs to develop and publicize stories. 3. Content Creation. Assesses the University faculty inventions and student startups for newsworthiness and create compelling news and public relations content. Creates engaging, dynamic content for the public, including press releases, blog articles, website updates, newsletter articles and social media. 4. Outreach. Manages delivery channels for newsworthy content, including updating and maintaining the department websites, social media accounts, and articles for email newsletters, and creating video, print, and on-campus events. Creates websites that embed existing content from Yale and external sites (publications related to the technology, videos featuring inventor, profile on Yale Bulletin and Calendar innovators webpage). 5. Other. Seeks out, negotiates with and recommends external organizations that can provide services that optimize both the cost and functionality of the new communications strategy. Ensures that all communications conform to the University guidelines. Hires student workers as needed to assist in producing copy. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four years of experience in website design, production, marketing, project management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
