We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. In this hybrid role, you will report to a Systems Test Engineering Manager, Motion Control.
Responsibilities
Organize test campaigns subject to project milestones and verification cycles
Write test plans and procedures, and develop scripts to automate their execution and analysis
Perform objective and subjective vehicle assessment using commercially available and Waymo‑developed tools and methods
Translate actuator, vehicle, electrical, and control motion control architecture and actuator requirements to verification tests and execute in vehicle
Analyze and visualize test results and report findings
Lead issue and root cause identification efforts
Qualifications
Understanding of systems engineering principles such as defining requirements and formal verification and validation methods
Data analysis and test scripting/automation experience particularly for vehicles or other electro‑mechanical systems (C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink)
Test planning and experimental design, especially designing for safety and repeatability
Proactive, organized, and good collaboration skills
Bachelor and/or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or a related field (including ME, EE, CS, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace, etc.) or equivalent practical experience
Preferred qualifications
Hands‑on experience testing, troubleshooting, or debugging air/ground/space vehicle systems or complex software systems.
Experience with Linux or Unix based systems
Data acquisition (DAQ) test equipment (Vector CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe and Etas INCA, MDA, etc.)
Working knowledge of SQL, Dremel, JIRA
