Headway’s mission
About the Role
Join us to build the decision engine for better mental health outcomes. As a Senior Data Scientist you will partner with product teams to capture the right data design and analyze experiments that reveal why outcomes move and what will happen if we do X and turn those insights into predictive models that improve provider and patient outcomes. You will earn trust across teams and deliver clear actionable findings that speed decisions. If you thrive in ambiguity, love hard problems and want to shape a data-driven culture this is your next move.
You will
Become a trusted strategic partner to our cross‑functional product teams and work within them to define analytics requirements, identify important questions, design and implement experiments or causal analyses and help answer critical questions to drive strategy with data.
Design, run and analyze A/B tests and quasi‑experiments with clear hypotheses, power guardrails and pre‑defined decision rules.
Use data to understand trends in user behavior and product usage to influence strategy, product ideation and drive experimentation.
Build and validate predictive models when appropriate to operationalize vetted insights including feature development, backtesting and clear success criteria for launch.
Collaborate with data team members and stakeholders across the company to shape minimal decision‑critical data requirements and present work in an impactful and digestible way that leads to better business decisions.
Tell compelling stories through data articulating technical information to a non‑technical audience.
What will make you successful
6 years of experience using data to solve real‑world problems and drive decision‑making within engineering, ops, product or growth teams.
Opinions about product analytics and a track record of building or driving product analytics rigor that demonstrates how your product recommendations drive business outcomes.
High proficiency with SQL and tools for data analysis like Python or R.
Depth in experimentation and causal inference under real‑world constraints, including test design, diff‑in‑diff or matching when randomized tests are not feasible, and principled uncertainty quantification.
Practical modeling skill across feature engineering, model comparison, cross‑validation or backtesting and calibration that generalizes beyond the training period.
Experience developing tests and predictive analytics, synthesizing results and building frameworks and data models to make data‑informed launch decisions.
Inherent curiosity and analytical follow‑through. You can’t help but ask why and love using data and logic to explore potential solutions.
A self‑starter mentality with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and identify opportunities with limited oversight.
Exceptional data storytelling abilities and the ability to articulate technical information to a non‑technical audience.
Operating in a team‑first environment with excellent collaboration and communication skills.
