POSITION SUMMARY University of South Florida (USF), Department of Surgery is seeking a well‑trained, Board Certified and fellowship‑trained General Surgeon at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to join a hospital‑based practice. The ideal candidate should be clinically experienced with excellent surgical skills and judgment. Communication skills, emotional intelligence and commitment to a team‑based practice are critical.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching Duties:
Engage in the education of residents and medical students; serve as an active participant in the Department’s residency training and educational programs; provide instruction to medical students, residents, and clinical fellows.
Research Duties:
Participate in research studies and quality improvement activities.
Administrative Duties:
Complete timely all training courses required by the hospital/trauma program (e.g., Code of Conduct, coding courses).
Clinical Duties:
Provide intensive care clinical services in the surgical trauma ICU with day and nighttime in‑house coverage, admit complex trauma and emergency general surgery cases, and accept transplant, general surgery, surgical oncology, OB/GYN oncology, ENT cases; collect history, perform physical exam, order diagnostic tests, formulate diagnosis and treatment plans, offer health counseling.
Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions of Position:
Report to the Chair or other higher‑level administrator of a State university.
Teach, conduct research, provide service, and conduct related administrative activities.
Academic advising and related activities.
Represent the university, college/school, or department as appropriate.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Minimum
Doctoral/Medical degree from an accredited institution or highest appropriate degree; demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
Board Certified or Board Eligible in general surgery (or general surgery with added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care).
Meeting university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
For Associate or Full Professor: demonstrated creative work, professional writing or research in refereed journals, and recognized authority in their field.
Preferred
Board Certified or Eligible in general surgery with added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
