Position Correctional Sergeant I (S)

Description of Work Salary Range: $35,984.00 - $62,971.00
Responsibilities
Assist and instruct officers in the performance of their duties and complete performance evaluations; disseminate and interpret to officers and offenders’ rules and regulations formulated by the department.
Make frequent tours of inspection to ascertain that officers are alert, that discipline is being maintained and that assignments are being carried out.
Supervise offender counts and maintain all records so that offenders may be accounted for at all times; supervise periodic searches of offender quarters for contraband.
Conduct investigations, develop prison operational, emergency plans and post orders.
Work is performed according to standard departmental procedures and supplemental instructions are received through the established chain of command.
Employee is subject to rotation to various duty assignments and performs other duties relative to the defined level of work described.
Qualifications Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the vacancy announcement should be used as management preferences and be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants.
Minimum Education And Experience High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience as a correctional officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
Work Schedule Full-time (40 hours per week). The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.
