Overview Connecticut Institute for Communities, Inc. (CIFC) is hiring a full‑time Early Childhood Education Teacher for its Greater Norwalk Head Start / Early Learning Program. The teacher will lead a classroom of 16 to 20 preschool children (ages 3–5) and serve as the indirect supervisor of an Assistant Teacher and a Classroom Aid (CDA Specialist).

Planning – 20%

Program Implementation – 50%

Family Partnerships – 10%

Communication and Service Coordination – 5%

Record Keeping – 5%

Ongoing Monitoring and Self‑Assessment – 5%

Supervision and Human Resources – 5%

Essential Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a written curriculum that includes goals, experiences, supports for parents, and necessary materials.

Prepare and post daily lesson plans for parents, volunteers, and visitors.

Create individualized plans for each child with goal setting and targeted activities.

Follow the Head Start curriculum, providing developmentally appropriate experiences that reflect each child’s age, language, and culture.

Implement active learning that enhances intellectual and emotional development.

Provide a print‑rich environment that promotes literacy, numeracy, and social skills.

Offer positive guidance and discipline to support kindergarten readiness.

Adapt lesson plans daily based on observations and anecdotal records.

Integrate IEPs for children with disabilities.

Maintain consistent classroom routines and supervise safety and security of all children according to Head Start standards.

Model nutrition, conduct classroom meals, supervise field trips, and uphold universal precautions to prevent occupational injury.

Expectations

Collaborate with colleagues, support program service quality, and maintain positive staff relationships.

Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and committee meetings, including evening activities.

Adhere to personnel policies: confidentiality, child abuse reporting, attendance, dress, customer service, and safety.

Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and ongoing professional development.

Show initiative, flexibility, and respect for colleagues’ time.

Requirements

AA in Early Childhood Education (minimum). BA preferred with at least 12 credits in early childhood.

Background check and fingerprinting required.

Strongly encouraged to be bilingual.

Recent fit‑for‑duty examination; ability to lift 40 lbs.

Compensation Details $66,860 – $107,760 Annual Salary.
