Responsibilities
Perform work as outlined on the repair order such as oil change, tune‑ups, checking/replacing fluid levels and tire rotation with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
Diagnose the cause of any malfunction and perform repair using testing and diagnostic equipment.
Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended using checklists.
Communicate with service advisor and customers immediately if additional work is needed, if the outlined work is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time. Provide labor and time estimates for additional work.
Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
Road test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician.
Participate in manufacturer‑sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
Supervise the work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
Ensure that customers’ cars are kept clean. Notify service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
Keep shop area neat and clean.
Maintain and be accountable for all dealership‑owned tools and manuals. Return them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right‑to‑Know.
Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
Report any safety issues immediately to management.
Qualifications
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Ability to read and comprehend instruction and information.
Ability to use a computer to search for bulletins or technical information.
Ability to provide your own tools (all manufacturer‑specific/special tools will be supplied by the dealer to share).
ASE certification is preferred.
Must supply your own OSHA‑approved footwear.
