Role Summary As a reliability engineer for the RivianVW joint venture, you will play a key role in developing the new generations of low voltage electric architectures. You will provide guidance on upcoming ECU designs to ensure they meet our vehicle mission and reliability targets.
Responsibilities As a Design‑for‑Reliability Engineer focusing on low voltage electronics, you will play a key role in developing vehicle control, connected car, and self‑driving products from concept to production phases. Essential responsibilities in this role include:
Be the resident reliability development expert for the hardware design and architecture teams.
Guide the reliability and engineering teams on electronic failure modes, typical countermeasures for reliability failures and design guidelines.
Develop reliability specifications and validation plans – Perform on‑site evaluation of Contract Manufacturers during development phases to ensure DFMEA and PFMEA recommendations are implemented.
Coordinate root cause process with engineering teams, suppliers and failure analysis laboratories.
Provide risk analysis to guide design decisions.
Qualifications Minimum requirement is a Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline or equivalent. Level of Role depends on experience and qualifications. A strong technical background is needed in the following areas:
Technical knowledge of one or more aspects related to PCBA reliability: failure modes, reliability specification development, design guidelines, water‑cooled electronics, interconnects.
Understanding of FMEA process.
Working knowledge of a coding language, preferably Python.
Working knowledge of statistical software for reliability, such as JMP or the ReliaSoft suite.
Understanding of Highly Accelerated Testing methods and governing equations for different types of failure mechanisms.
Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as SEM, CT, X‑Ray, EDS, TDR.
Pay Disclosure Salary Range/Hourly Rate for Irvine, California Based Applicants: $107,000.00 - $141,000.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
