Qualifications To qualify for this position - you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
(NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) - b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) -OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) - which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs)
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e. - not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis
PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged
rather - they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision
Additionally - surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Additional Requirement: This position requires Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Internal Medicine Pediatrics
This position requires at least 5 years of practice post residency

Duties
We are seeking an enthusiastic internist with a passion for medical education for a full time position as Medical Director at our Jamaica Plain location in Boston - Massachusetts
This full-time position includes approximately 51% clinical time
The Jamaica Plain practice is a large primary care practice with 6000 patients and 10 physicians with onsite access to multiple specialties - radiology - laboratory services and Urgent Care
The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring that excellent - high quality care is provided to our Veteran population in the Jamaica Plain Primary Care Clinic
Key responsibilities include: -Working as a member of the management team to provide oversight of practice management including direct provider supervision - operational issues and clinical performance
-Providing longitudinal care to a panel of medically complex and diverse patients
-Developing local educational initiatives for providers and trainees
-Precepting house staff and medical students.-Implementing clinical quality improvement initiatives
Prior expertise in medical education is preferred
Candidates should also be experienced with population management - evidence-based guidelines - and adult learning principles
VA Primary Care Physicians manage a complex panel of patients in collaborative teams
Panel sizes are approximately 1250 patients per full-time physician and appointment lengths are 60 minutes for new patients and 30 minutes for all other appointments
Telephone and video care are encouraged
Each physician is assigned a registered nurse - clinical associate - and scheduler
There is no call - and no weekend or holiday duty
Physicians provide general and gender-specific care to adult men and women
The VA utilizes a national electronic medical record and is known for delivering high quality - evidence-based care within a culture of continuous improvement
The Primary Care Service at VA Boston Healthcare System is leading the VHA's initiative in the Whole Health System of care which includes conventional treatment but also focuses on self-empowerment - self-healing - and self-care
