QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent, Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license, Trade school training in the areas of electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, and/or plumbing, or any equivalent training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is preferred. Physical and mental stamina and the ability to perform job functions, tasks, and duties.
REPORTS TO: Energy/Maintenance Coordinator SUPERVISES: Non-Applicable TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months PAY GRADE: Helper 18 /Jr. Mechanic 20
JOB GOAL: Assists the maintenance department in performing repairs, installations, and preventative upkeep of facilities, systems, and equipment. This role is designed to assist across all skilled crafts - including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and HVAC - by providing reliable support, following safety procedures, and ensuring facilities remain safe and functional.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists senior maintenance staff with repair, installation, and preventative maintenance tasks on buildings, systems, and equipment. Safely uses and cares for tools, materials, and equipment while following established procedures and safety regulations. Prepares, maintains, and cleans work areas, ensuring proper setup and teardown for assigned tasks. Performs basic maintenance activities such as assembling, repairing, painting, adjusting, or servicing equipment and facilities as directed. Supports routine inspections and reports issues, hazards, or needed repairs to supervisors. Participates in preventative maintenance schedules to help reduce equipment and facility downtime. Keeps accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment maintained. Provides courteous and professional service to staff, students, and visitors. Cooperates with co-workers and supervisors to complete tasks and support department goals. Remains available for on-call duties or emergency assignments as required. Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or administration.
PROFESSIONAL ETHICS: Maintains good attendance. Reports to work on time. Displays professional ethics on and off duty. Adheres to all policies of the Iberville Parish School Board. Reports job-related injuries within 24 hours of a work accident to the immediate supervisor. Assumes responsibility for the implementation of emergency procedures. Seeks and maintains a positive attitude of promoting school and community relations. Participates in and promotes harmonious working relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and community members. Attends meetings as directed. Serves on task force and decision-making committees, when appropriate.
