Counsel Position
A prominent full-service law firm is seeking a Counsel to join its Labor & Employment Department. The position is ideal for an attorney with substantial experience in employment law, including litigation, counseling, and regulatory compliance. Employment Type: Full-Time Permanent Location: Los Angeles, California (hybrid, with 2 days working from home) Position Overview: The Counsel will independently manage labor and employment cases from inception to resolution, provide employment law advice to clients, and support a range of employment-related litigation and counseling matters. What you'll do: Handle single-plaintiff litigation matters, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage-and-hour, and reasonable accommodation claims. Manage and advise on PAGA (Private Attorneys General Act) cases. Participate in class action litigation as needed. Draft, review, and respond to initial pleadings and discovery requests. Prepare, argue, and respond to motions, including dispositive and discovery motions. Take and defend depositions, including those of plaintiffs and corporate witnesses. Provide employment law counseling on federal and state regulations, policies, and best practices. Manage cases independently, from start to finish, with minimal supervision. Maintain and develop client relationships; a smaller portable book of business is advantageous but not required. Requirements: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Licensed to practice law in the relevant state bar. 9-12 years of experience in employment law, with substantial litigation and counseling exposure. Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with an excellent academic record. Proven ability to handle complex cases independently. Work environment & physical requirements: Standard office setting using typical office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and copiers. Sedentary work primarily, involving sitting most of the time; occasional walking and standing required. Ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds. Close visual acuity required for reviewing documents, preparing analyses, and working extensively with computers. Benefits: Salary range reflects multiple factors, including experience, education, licensure, certifications, market conditions, and organizational needs.
