Electrical Engineering Thought Leader | Mission Critical

HED is looking to add an experienced team member to our group of talented Electrical Engineers. The person filling this role will be responsible for developing program-level electrical design solutions directly with clients, while managing the electrical project design team from schematic design through construction administration. They will also provide leadership and mentorship to engineering staff within the electrical discipline. Mission critical/data center experience from an electrical engineering perspective will be needed for this role.

TYPICAL DUTIES: PROJECT RELATED

Knowledge

Extensive experience in

mission critical/data center electrical systems , including medium and low-voltage power distribution, emergency power systems (UPS, generators), and branch circuitry.

Experience engaging and advising clients on critical infrastructure design and performance goals.

Strong understanding of

electrical redundancy ,

reliability , and

scalability

in high-availability environments.

Familiarity with

sustainable design approaches , energy efficiency, and system commissioning.

Ability to research and apply

electrical codes (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, etc.)

across U.S. jurisdictions.

Experience coordinating with

AHJs and utility providers .

Team Engagement

Lead and oversee electrical project team members.

Monitor and guide staff to ensure a high-quality client experience as part of an integrated design team.

Collaborate effectively with remote engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

Pursuit Skills

Ability to review, interpret, and respond to RFPs within short timeframes.

Participate in client interviews and business development presentations.

Support project budgeting and scoping with an understanding of electrical system impacts on cost models.

Project Skills

Create and drive the electrical design process from schematics through construction administration, including preparation and maintenance of discipline work plans.

Participate in early-stage design charrettes to identify challenges and opportunities.

Develop and document electrical system concepts, including one-line diagrams, load calculations, and panel schedules.

Prepare and maintain an

Electrical Basis of Design Journal

throughout project lifecycle, including applicable code research.

Conduct product and material research to support design intent.

Act as electrical discipline lead on assigned projects.

Coordinate with other discipline leads to ensure comprehensive, high-quality deliverables.

Attend client meetings and represent HED as necessary.

Respond promptly to client inquiries and support construction administration activities such as RFIs and submittal reviews.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

TYPICAL DUTIES: NON-PROJECT RELATED

Actively engage in a collaborative, integrated team environment.

Mentor support engineers and designers, guiding their professional growth.

Participate in refining and improving internal standards, workflows, and documentation.

Provide performance feedback and foster a culture of learning and recognition.

Contribute to in-house training programs and knowledge-sharing efforts.

Represent HED in industry-related organizations, technical panels, and conferences.

Provide recognition to staff members observed doing superior work.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

(Required)

Professional Engineering (PE) license

(Required)

Minimum of 10 years' experience in the A/E industry,

with significant focus on mission critical/data center work .

Extensive knowledge of electrical design services from conceptual design to project closeout.

Skilled in Revit and other electrical design tools.

Familiarity with short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies (e.g., SKM or ETAP).

IES-VE modeling experience .

LEED Accredited Professional .

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated leadership, delegation, and team development capabilities.

Strong organizational and planning skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Requirements

Ability to travel to and from project sites for meetings and field assessments.

Capability to perform site observations and evaluations.

Proficient with tools used for documentation and communication.

Adequate visual acuity for detailed design and documentation tasks.
