Were seeking a
Senior Estimator
with deep experience in
process piping
(and related scopes like pressure vessels and mechanical systems). Youll lead the estimating effort from concept through award, build and maintain cost databases, partner with vendors/subcontractors, and develop winning strategies that balance cost, schedule, and risk. Key Responsibilities Estimate Ownership:
Lead quantity takeoffs and cost builds for process piping (shop/field fabrication and installation), valves/instrumentation, supports, insulation/heat tracing, and tie-ins; incorporate related mechanical and structural scopes where required. Proposal Development:
Produce complete technical/commercial proposals, clarifications, and exclusions; assemble bid forms, price books, alternates, and value options for EPC, FEED, and detailed design packages. Scope Definition:
Review P&IDs, isometrics, orthos, GA drawings, datasheets, 3D models, specs, and project execution plans to validate scope, means/methods, risks, and assumptions. Market Pricing & Procurement:
Solicit, level, and negotiate vendor/subcontractor quotes; drive competitive coverage for materials (pipe, fittings, valves), prefabrication, specialty alloys, NDE, scaffolding, and specialty services. Benchmarking & Databases:
Build, calibrate, and maintain historical cost databases, assemblies, and production rates; develop pricing tools/templates and price books for internal and external use. Scheduling & Constructability:
Collaborate on baseline fabrication/installation schedules and staffing curves; provide constructability input and sequence planning to de-risk execution. Risk & Contingency:
Identify commercial and technical risks; recommend contingencies, allowances, and escalation strategies aligned to estimate class (conceptual through definitive). Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Project Controls, Operations, and Business Development to align estimate strategy with client priorities. Handover & Lessons Learned:
Lead estimate handoff to project teams; capture win/loss data and actuals to continuously improve accuracy.
Qualifications
Experience:
815+ years estimating in
process piping
and mechanical scopes within EPC/industrial construction, fabrication, or owner/operator environments. Technical Depth:
Strong grasp of
P&IDs, isometrics, MTOs , material specs, welding procedures, alloy selection, QA/QC, and typical field conditions (tie-ins, shutdowns, modularization). Codes & Standards:
Working knowledge of
ASME
(e.g., B31.1/B31.3, Section VIII),
API/ANSI/AISC , and relevant industry standards. Commercial Acumen:
Proven ability to level quotes, analyze productivity, assess logistics and indirects, and communicate margins, contingencies, and risk posture. Tools:
Proficiency with
2D/3D CAD
and takeoff workflows (AutoCAD, Plant design tools),
Bluebeam , and estimating platforms/spreadsheets. Experience with
Aspen Capital Cost Estimator
or similar is a plus. Collaboration & Communication:
Clear, concise written and verbal skills; confident presenting estimates and strategies to executives and clients. Education:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
