Overview Union College invites applications for the position of two-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Latin American History, beginning September 1, 2026. Applications are due December 15, 2025. Responsibilities Teach courses in Colonial and Modern Latin America, including courses reflecting areas of specialization, contributing to Latin American and Caribbean Studies and other interdisciplinary programs (Gender, Sexuality, & Women’s Studies; Environmental Science, Policy, & Engineering; Africana Studies) and to the General Education curriculum. Teach pre-Columbian, indigenous and/or global history is highly desirable. Maintain a normal teaching load of six courses over three trimesters; offer courses from introductory to junior seminars and supervise senior projects. Qualifications Ph.D. in History or closely related field required at time of appointment (September 1, 2026). About the History Department The History Department at Union College offers undergraduate courses that range from introductory surveys to advanced seminars. Many courses are writing-intensive and contribute to Union’s Writing Across the Curriculum program. All history majors write a senior thesis. Faculty teach courses in their areas of expertise, including by region and topics such as digital history, environmental history, gender and identity, history of science and technology, and public history. The wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
