Function
Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes in the industrial plant, integrating quality across all functions including operations, engineering, purchasing, and support.
Essential Responsibilities
Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, using knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, and production equipment.
Improve assembly methods and quality standards through process evaluation and application of engineering and quality tools.
Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow.
Design equipment and workspace layouts for maximum efficiency, continually evaluating design changes to promote process and product improvements and eliminate waste.
Collaborate with planning and design staff on product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
Consult with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and assist in developing a supplier quality program.
Work with customers to define part and product quality requirements.
Perform cost estimates, production time estimates, staffing requirements, and related costs to inform management decisions.
Collaborate with management, engineering, sales, and manufacturing staff to develop manufacturing capabilities, schedules, and processes.
Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and develop quality programs, including SPC and production monitoring.
Identify and flow‑chart all manufacturing processes.
Research and evaluate customer design proposals and specifications to ensure manufacturing processes meet customer expectations.
Establish part costing and routing.
Work with manufacturing and product engineering to develop manufacturing standards.
Ensure OSHA safety compliance across the shop and assist in maintaining OSHA and EPA compliance.
Support engineering in making product or part changes to better utilize manufacturing equipment and processes.
Establish standard costing and assist in developing standard bills of materials.
Lead development of a quality system.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist in identifying and implementing ERP/business operating systems.
Work with manufacturing customers to develop part quotes for contract manufacturing.
Provide leadership in continuous improvement efforts, ensuring tracking and recording of initiatives.
Establish an effective corrective action program.
Assist the HR department in job analysis, job description development, training recommendations, and recruitment planning.
Provide assistance with engineering change systems and maintenance management programs.
Support new product development, process design, and implementation for new products.
Qualifications
A four‑year degree in engineering, manufacturing, business, or a related field.
Minimum six years of manufacturing experience.
Experience in agile/lean/JIT or DFT environments.
Technical/management experience in plant maintenance operations with a focus on machine capability and process capability studies.
Problem‑solving skills in 8‑D, FMEA, Taguchi methods, root‑cause analysis, pareto analysis, and continuous improvement techniques.
Excellent communication skills.
Purchasing and material management experience.
Experience with time‑study methods and industrial engineering standards.
Experience in manufacturing quality programs (ISO, TQM, Six Sigma) and quality certification is desirable.
Product/process design experience.
Cost analysis and BOM experience; ability to understand financial statements.
In‑depth knowledge of OSHA and EPA requirements for manufacturing facilities.
Knowledge of CAD design, word processing, and spreadsheet programs.
Project management and time‑management skills.
Team‑building skills and ability to handle multiple projects independently or in a team.
