Director of Operations at Great Outdoors Foundation Summary of Position

We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Project Manager with experience working with the agricultural sector and collaborating with conservation agronomists to lead and support sustainable agriculture initiatives. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with producers to identify conservation practices, is familiar with edge‑of‑field practices and skilled in stakeholder coordination, and adept at managing complex, multi‑partner conservation projects from planning through implementation and evaluation. This position will report to the Senior Project Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Management

Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of conservation agriculture projects across multiple regions.

Develop project work plans, timelines, deliverables, and budgets in collaboration with internal teams and partners.

Coordinate with conservation agronomists to align project goals with best practices in soil health, cover cropping, nutrient management, and related areas.

Stakeholder Engagement

Facilitate strong relationships with agronomists, farmers, landowners, researchers, funders, and agency partners.

Organize field days, workshops, and demonstration events to showcase conservation practices and share outcomes.

Serve as a liaison between technical experts and the agricultural community to ensure shared understanding and successful implementation of conservation practices.

Monitoring, Evaluation, & Reporting

Track project progress and impact using qualitative and quantitative metrics.

Prepare reports for funders and stakeholders summarizing accomplishments, challenges, and lessons learned.

Support data collection efforts in collaboration with agronomists and research partners.

Support cross‑functional coordination with operations, development, and marketing teams.

Occasionally support admin staff, project staff, and interns as needed.

Contribute to organizational learning and strategic planning initiatives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Agronomy, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, or related field.

3+ years of experience managing conservation or agricultural projects, including direct collaboration with conservation agronomists.

Strong knowledge of conservation agriculture principles.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and partners.

Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Knowledge of funding sources, such as cost‑share programs, for conservation practices is strongly preferred.

Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Asana, Excel, or similar) and basic data analysis.

Experience working with watershed groups, agribusiness sector, and farmers is a plus.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree preferred with 3‑4 years’ experience in fundraising, nonprofit, and/or administrative work.

The Great Outdoors Foundation offers a flexible work environment where there is opportunity to have flex hours working from home. The first 60 days are required to be in office for training and oversight and will require a 60‑day review.
