Principal/Sr. Principal Software Engineer

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Principal/Sr. Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, California. Essential functions include: Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical solutions Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with SW architects and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of modifications to our embedded flight control software Management and development of AV Simulation software Ensures software standards are met We offer flexible work arrangements, great learning opportunities, exposure to a wide variety of projects and customers, and a very friendly team environment. Basic qualifications for Principal Engineer Software: Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5+ years of experience in software engineering OR Master's degree and 3+ years of experience in software engineering or PhD and 1 of experience Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 8+ years of experience in software engineering OR Master's degree and 6+ years of experience in software engineering or PhD and 4 years of experience Experience developing software/writing code in C/C++ and Python Experience in object oriented analysis and design Experience with integrating software and hardware A functional understanding of how revision control systems (e.g., BitBucket, git, CVS, etc.) are used This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs Preferred qualifications: Experience with Linux/Unix operating systems Experience with Agile software development and Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, Nexus, Fisheye, etc) Experience with VxWorks Detailed knowledge of avionics communication protocols, including ARINC 429, ARINC 422, and MIL-STD-1553 Experience in embedded testing environments, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) for avionics systems. Familiarity with the certification processes of aviation industry standards, such as RTCA/DO-178 for software Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact successfully with engineering counterparts in various disciplines. Experience with/using Agile Methodology and Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Deployment (CD) Tools (Jenkins) and Practices Experience with automated testing and test software such as TestComplete.
