*Position Title: *Special Education Teacher - Middle School Life Skills In order to make an application, simply read through the following job description and make sure to attach relevant documents. *Qualifications: *Special Education Teaching Certificate and Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education *Reports to:* Director of Special Education *Work Schedule:* 180 Days (Academic School Year) at 7.5 Hours / Day *Function: *Provide special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels. Work in self-contained, co-taught, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned. *Responsibilities:* 1. Collaborate with students, parents, other teachers, administrators, and other team members to develop and implement IEPs for each student assigned 2. Plan and teach a program of study consistent with principles of child growth and development, disability-specific characteristics, state standards, alternate standards, and the District approved curriculum 3. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the needs of students assigned and their identified disabilities 4. Collaborate with grade-level staff to ensure students are receiving instruction in the Least Restrictive Environment and are included with similar-aged peers to the greatest extent possible 5. Collect, analyze, and report student data related to IEP goals, making adjustments to the IEP as needed 6. Utilize technology to support student needs 7. Provide consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, assistive technology, positive behavior support and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities 8. Coordinate with outside agencies to ensure consistent service provision and ensure students are receiving FAPE 9. Establish high expectations for all students, where competence is presumed, and team member input is valued 10. Provide consultation, planning, and support to address student behavior in a variety of school environments (classroom, hallway, lunch room, etc.), assist in behavioral crisis situations as appropriate to ensure IEP provisions are maintained 11. Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping procedures to fulfill professional obligations related to meeting IDEA and state-required deadlines, schedules, and requests from administrators, parents, and/or students 12. Serves as primary special education contact for families and maintains regular communication on student needs and progress 13. Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding of students as detailed in the IEP 14. Provide instructional direction to support staff; assign activities; arrange schedule; maintain frequent contact; provide guidance and instructional oversight 12.
