Program Manager, Explore Energy – Shultz Energy Fellowships, Schneider Sustainable Energy Fellowships, and Summer Undergraduate Program on Energy Research (SUPER) at Stanford University’s Doerr School of Sustainability.

Location: Stanford, CA – hybrid work schedule available. Position is full‑time and benefits‑eligible.

About the Role The Precourt Institute for Energy seeks an experienced Program Manager to lead, grow, and deepen the academic and experiential outreach of the Shultz Energy Fellowships, Schneider Sustainable Energy Fellowships, and SUPER. The role works closely with the Assistant Director for Explore Energy and collaborates with campus partners, external stakeholders, and student teams to expand these initiatives.

Responsibilities

Lead and execute experiential learning programs—Shultz Energy Fellowships, Schneider Sustainable Energy Fellowships, and SUPER—partnering with campus units (e.g., Bill Lane Center, Haas Center, Stanford in Government, Stanford in Washington) and outside organizations (e.g., California Energy Commission, NRDC).

Engage and connect with Stanford students, cultivating strong relationships and fostering pathways into energy, climate, and public service careers.

Build and maintain partnerships with California agencies such as the California Energy Commission and the California Public Utilities Commission for public policy engagement and research.

Develop and refine program workflows, budgets (starting at $250,000), and reporting tools to support program growth.

Promote program visibility across campus through marketing, outreach to student forums, and collaboration with the Explore Energy team.

Manage team members, including Course Assistants and other student hires, delegating tasks and facilitating effective communication.

Initiate and nurture alumni engagement efforts, such as an Advisory Board for the fellowship programs.

Coordinate with Precourt Institute leadership to align program objectives with institutional strategic priorities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent blend of education and experience.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, multitask, and exercise initiative and ownership of projects.

Solid organizational skills and experience working independently and as part of a team.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and the capability to exercise sound judgment in decision‑making.

Experience in program or project management, preferably within energy, sustainability, or public service contexts.

Interpersonal skills that support collaboration with internal faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.

Commitment to a culture of safety and adherence to applicable university policies.

Compensation Salary range: $100,023 – $124,516 per annum. Stanford offers a comprehensive benefits package that complements base pay.
