Job Description

Involves a senior-level telecommunications technician who installs, modifies, and maintains equipment in central offices and data centers with minimal supervision, potentially leading teams, and performing complex tasks like "hot cuts " and fiber optic work. Key responsibilities include interpreting technical documents, installing and terminating cabling, configuring DC power systems, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards like GR-1275. This position requires significant experience.

Key Responsibilities & Duties-

Equipment Installation & Modification: Install, remove, and modify telecommunications equipment, infrastructure (like racking and fiber ducts), and components in Central Offices (CO), MSOs, and Data Centers.

Technical Documentation: Read and interpret technical documents, such as floor plans, rack layouts, engineering instructions, and customer work orders, to guide installations.

Cabling & Infrastructure: Build and install support infrastructure, including cable racks and framing. Terminate, route, and manage fiber and copper cabling using methods like lacing, stitching, and sewing.

Power Systems: Configure and commission -48VDC power systems, including rectifiers, batteries, and distribution panels, and perform complex "hot cut " transitions.

Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality installations by adhering to Telcordia GR-1275 and other customer-specific standards. Participate in quality audits and ensure all work is safe and compliant.

Leadership & Mentoring: Potentially lead site teams, provide work instructions to lower-level technicians, and serve as the in-charge person for jobs. Skills and Qualifications-

Experience: A minimum of 6 years of accumulated experience or equivalent, as determined by the installation supplier.

Technical Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge of current network products and equipment, including DC power systems and transport/data center hardware.

Tools & Equipment: Proficiency in using a variety of hand tools, test equipment (e.g., BER, OTDR), and computer interfaces for validation.

Standards Compliance: Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards such as Telcordia GR-1275-CORE and other carrier-specific guidelines.

Soft Skills: Strong verbal and written communication, customer-facing skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams. Work Environment

Field-Based: The role is field-based.

Safety: A strong emphasis on safety is required, following all company and customer mandates, and utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
