New Hire Experience:
1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum
New Hire Education:
1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position
Job Summary:
To perform standard service adjustments on district vehicles and to ensure availability of vehicles in safe operating condition.
Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Vehicle Maintenance. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.
Key Responsibilities: Install, repair and maintain tires Service equipment by changing oil, lubricate moving parts, change filters and make service adjustments Check vehicles for worn parts; report and repair as appropriate Steam clean engines and parts and assist mechanic with repair equipment Make service calls for emergency repairs and operate light and heavy duty towing equipment for vehicle recovery Report vehicles not conforming to safety standards and perform minor repairs Keep accurate service records on gas, oil, parts, etc. Perform required paperwork and recordkeeping in a timely, neat and legible manner Perform refueling of district vehicles as required; may be required to wash buses and pump gas Follow safe work procedures and keep shop area maintained and free from hazards Regular and on-time attendance required Inspect, diagnose and make minor repairs on district vehicles Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools Required Qualifications:
High School education or equivalent Valid, or ability to obtain, Arizona CDL license preferred One year mechanical and diesel experience Skills & Competencies:

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Indoor garage or workshop with exposure to noise, grease, oil, and mechanical equipment Occasional outdoor work, especially if performing maintenance on-site (e.g., school parking lots or during road calls) Regularly climbs ladders, crouches, or reaches into tight spaces (e.g., under vehicles) Exposure to fumes, dust, chemicals (e.g., cleaning solvents, oils, anti-freeze) Uses hand and power tools that require good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity Frequently lifts or moves parts and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs. or more
