Quality Technician - Sandston, Virginia

Job Description

The Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring compliance with company and plant policies and procedures. This role involves verifying that quality standards and process controls are consistently met through analytical testing and evaluation of materials and finished products. The technician will also provide coverage for QA Technicians during vacation periods. Candidates must actively support the organization’s safety policies and contribute to maintaining a safe work environment for themselves and all employees.

Responsibilities

Perform plant-wide food safety inspections and direct observation of critical control points (CCPs).

Conduct calibrations and compliance checks.

Relieve all shifts of QA Technicians for vacations or other time off.

Perform product start-up, changeovers, and hourly moisture and salt pressure tests on cup seals.

Test slurries for moisture and salt.

Pull retain samples and evaluate products organoleptically and for shelf life.

Place nonconforming products on hold and release products for shipment.

Conduct viscosity measurements.

Perform peroxide value, free fatty acid, iodine value, and trans fat testing on incoming oil loads.

Check incoming materials against the Certificate of Analysis.

Create and distribute Certificates of Analysis as directed.

Prepare and fill chemical reagents as needed.

Pull, pack, and send out samples as directed.

Perform microbial and environmental testing and interpret results.

Conduct pH testing.

Perform Mettler Drop Point testing and other required tests.

Conduct allergen testing.

Monitor production processes for proper codes and information.

Maintain QA’s production log book.

Keep accurate documentation of all lab testing and procedures.

Enter test results into the computer.

Prepare and set up for the shift that follows.

Train all new laboratory technicians.

Maintain a clean working environment and follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Perform special assignments and other duties as required.

Essential Skills

Experience in quality assurance, laboratory, and quality control.

Knowledge of chemistry, food and beverage experience.

Familiarity with food manufacturing and food testing.

Training in GLP, Laboratory and Food Safety, GMP, Allergens, Moisture and Salt Analysis, and Oil Testing.

PCQI Training.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

The candidate will work within the quality lab and will be trained by the predecessor who was promoted to a supervisor position. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sandston, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
