Position Overview Atrium Health invites Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to join the Hospital Medicine team at Charlotte CMC Main. The role is a full‑time APP position with a 7 days on / 7 days off schedule and shifts of 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. The primary focus is inpatient adult medicine, with responsibilities in admissions, rounding, and occasional cross‑cover duties. No on‑call is required.
Key Responsibilities
Admissions and Rounding
100% inpatient adult medicine care
Collaborate with physicians and APPs in a team‑based approach
Experience Required
Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program
NPs must hold a Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Nursing Practice with ACNP or AGACNP board certification
PAs must hold certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); CAQ certification preferred
Current license to practice as NP or PA in North Carolina
Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license
BLS for Healthcare Provider (AHA) valid at least 90 days beyond the start date
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment with strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills
Ability to perform thorough history and physical assessments
Ability to function within a multidisciplinary team
Job Summary Specialty care APPs provide concentrated services on a single system, caring for both acute and chronically ill patients. This includes clinic‑based and/or hospitalized patient care.
Essential Functions
Perform initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments
Record findings of examinations, assessments, and plan of care
Perform minor medical and/or surgical procedures
Write prescriptions and administer medications
Order and interpret daily laboratory and radiology studies
Determine treatment plans for patients
Document all patient encounters and interventions appropriately in the medical record
Act as a patient advocate for the population served
Attend, participate, and contribute to group/practice meetings and policy development as requested
Physical Requirements
Frequent walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling
Must be able to lift and support 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies
Must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity
Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms
Must be able to react and perform in stressful situations
Schedule may include weekdays, nights, swings, holidays, and weekends, with greater than 400 hours of weekend and/or night coverage annually
Education, Experience, and Certifications
Must have or be eligible for a DEA license
Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of practice
Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board (SC if applicable)
BLS certification required
Nurse Practitioner
Master’s Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required
Registered Nurse license required
National board certification in area of practice required (ACNP, AGACNP, AGNP, PNP, or PNP‑AC)
Physician Assistant
Graduate from an accredited PA program (Master’s preferred)
NCCPA certification preferred
