Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and servicing heavy equipment used in daily waste management operations. This role goes beyond machine operation—our ideal candidate will take ownership of their equipment and work area by ensuring proper upkeep, performing minor servicing, and maintaining a clean, safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, compactors, bulldozers, or excavators) in waste management operations
- Grease, service, and perform basic maintenance on assigned equipment
- Inspect equipment daily and report any mechanical issues to supervisors
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, including picking up litter and debris
- Assist with material handling, sorting, and processing as required
- Follow company and regulatory safety standards at all times
- Support team operations and complete other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2+ years of experience as a heavy equipment operator (waste management or construction)
- Knowledge of equipment servicing and upkeep, including lubrication and minor repairs
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and reliability
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform labor as needed
- Valid Massachusetts Hoisting license required; CDL a plus
