Job Summary
Operates and services heavy construction equipment such as compactor, dozer, excavator, motor grader, tub grinder, loaders, scrapers, articulated dump trucks, roll‑off trucks, and other equipment as needed to assist in the daily operations of the City Landfill.
Responsibilities
- Operate compactor, dozer, excavator, motor grader, tub grinder, loaders, scrapers, articulated dump trucks, roll‑off trucks, and other equipment as required.
- Maintain and service equipment and trucks.
- Operate mechanical attachments and equipment on vehicles.
- Operate pickups and other light equipment when assigned.
- Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent with an additional three to five years experience in the operation of motorized construction equipment.
- Experience operating any of the required equipment listed above.
- Solid waste disposal knowledge and experience.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) and Texas Commercial Class B or Class A driver’s license.
- TCEQ MSW Screening Certification within one year of hire.
- Prefer TCEQ MSW A Operator License.
- Prefer HAZWOPER certification.
- Physical exam required.
- Knowledge of:
- Operation and maintenance of heavy motorized equipment typically used in landfill operations.
- TCEQ MSW rules, site operating plan, and TCEQ MSW permit.
- Ability to:
- Operate heavy equipment skillfully and safely in landfill operations.
- Perform maintenance and service work on trucks and heavy equipment.
- Make field repairs.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- Walk and stand during a shift.
- Climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, poles, and inclined surfaces.
- Continuously push and pull objects.
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
- Frequently rotate upper trunk to the right or left while seated or standing.
- Reach above, at, or below shoulder height.
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement to operate motorized vehicles and machinery.
