About S&W and the Insurance Practice: Founded in 1998, Smith & Wilkinson is a consulting firm located in South Portland, Maine that supports our clients in the achievement of their own strategic initiatives through the recruitment, retention, and development of top talent. We serve clients across multiple industry verticals, and our service offerings include executive search, succession planning, executive coaching, and group leadership development. We are a team of 20 people in various roles, including client and candidate facing consultants, operational support staff, and leadership coaches.

Our Insurance Practice is currently seeking a Junior Associate to join the team, to support the business in a variety of ways, including research, data entry, special projects, administrative activities, etc.

This is a position for someone with 0-3 years of experience who is looking to build a career in the world of consulting. We want someone bright, talented, hard-working, and coachable, who sees this role as an 18-24 month tour of duty to get a feel for the business and the company, and earn a promotion to an Associate role. This is an in-office, 8-5, role with the potential for consideration for a hybrid work schedule once you’ve established and proven yourself.

Who you are:

  • You are someone who wants to live and work in greater Portland, Maine for a growing professional services/consulting firm with a high-performance culture.
  • Ideally, you have a year or two of experience in the property & casualty space, perhaps a claims adjuster or account manager for a carrier, mutual, or broker who wants to stay within the industry but prefers a higher touch with customers and more career opportunity.
  • A digital native with prior professional or academic experience with relevant software applications.
  • Someone with intense attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Someone with either a proven track record of taking initiative, or someone who can convince us that you’re willing, able, and eager to do so.
  • A recent college grad or someone early in their career who aspires to be more than a cog in a wheel.
  • Naturally inquisitive and intellectually curious.
  • A team player.
  • Someone with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
