About the role The Ash & Liquid Operator is responsible for operating, inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining ash handling and liquid waste systems to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient facility operations. This role requires strong attention to detail, teamwork across shifts, and the ability to perform both routine monitoring and minor maintenance activities. Key Responsibilities Equipment Monitoring & Maintenance
- Inspect, operate, and maintain all bottom ash and ferrous system equipment, keeping it clean and ash-free.
- Conduct rounds of all related equipment, including slip sticks, belts, rollers, scrapers, and mixers.
- Clean and inspect pug mill mixers twice per shift, maintaining proper fly ash mixing to prevent dusting.
- Inspect tea cup chutes, ash silos, ECS units, magnets, and other components to ensure they remain clear of debris and operating effectively.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as screen and spring changes, drive belt replacements, pump cleaning, and lubrication.
- Grease motors, bearings, pug mills, vibrators, and other equipment per compliance schedules.
- Maintain clean conditions in the ALO building, ash alley, control rooms, MCC rooms, and exterior areas.
- Perform weekly ash sampling, complete paperwork, and deliver samples to the Environmental Manager.
- Complete monthly safety equipment compliance checks.
- Monitor ferrous and non-ferrous stock levels and ensure acceptable storage.
- Safely offload liquid waste tankers and coordinate deliveries.
- Identify and correct system flow problems.
- Maintain liquid waste equipment, including cleaning strainers, replacing fittings, changing/rebuilding pumps, and cleaning lance nozzles.
- Receive and provide thorough shift turnover, staying beyond shift end if needed to resolve issues.
- Maintain accurate and complete shift logs, recording times of major evolutions, abnormal conditions, equipment attention, and maintenance needs.
- Keep the CRO and Shift Supervisor informed of all operational and equipment issues.
- Prior industrial, utility, or heavy equipment operations experience strongly preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform minor maintenance.
- Strong safety awareness and ability to follow compliance procedures.
- Ability to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and overtime.
- Willingness to wear required PPE, including a full faced respirator, and work in industrial/dirty environments.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with ability to coordinate across shifts.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work at heights.
- Ability to work in hot, cold, and dusty environments.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and manual handling of tools/equipment.
