Phlebotomist - Astoria
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Phlebotomist with strong straight needle proficiency to join our team in Astoria. The ideal candidate will have over two years of recent phlebotomy experience and possess excellent communication skills. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is required.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and perform decontamination tasks.
Update patient information accurately.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples at required temperatures and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
Essential Skills
2+ years of recent phlebotomy experience.
Strong straight needle experience.
Bilingual in Spanish.
Reliable and punctual.
Excellent communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of different color tubes and tests.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Minimum of 1 year of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Work Environment
The position is based in a Patient Service Center (PSC) in Astoria, Queens.
The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with every other Saturday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The location provides a dynamic and supportive environment for phlebotomy professionals.
