Position Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) is challenged with the planning, design, improvement, and optimization of manufacturing processes within plant operations. The ME is tasked with existing product and process support and is laser focused on driving both incremental and radical process improvements and optimization.
Principal Responsibilities
- Develops, evaluates, and implements optimized, highly capable and cost-effective manufacturing processes and inspection methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
- Improves and eliminates waste in all manufacturing processes, utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma techniques.
- Develops and implements process control techniques and procedures into manufacturing environments.
- Analyzes manufacturing process flows and floor layout for enhancements of safety, quality, cost reduction, and throughput.
- Creates and implements manufacturing cells when applicable.
- Collaborates with quality control and design engineering regarding product tooling, gaging and design to ensure effective production methods necessary to achieve zero defect, low product cost and standard work.
- Estimates resource requirements, production times, and relative costs to provide data for operational decisions.
- Works closely with manufacturing departments to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for employees.
- Creates and maintains tools, fixtures, and functional gauges to support manufacturing.
- Processes ERP system data to support shop floor activity.
- Provides engineering support to the production department to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.
- Supports company policies and procedures, goals and objectives, FDA regulations, and good manufacturing practices.
- Supports creation of PFMEA and assists with design reviews and FMEA activities.
- Leads Root Cause Analysis for nonconformance and Corrective Actions (CAPA).
- Provides data-driven solutions for process improvement, field investigations, and remediation for non-conforming product.
- Leads IQ/OQ/PQ Validations.
- Leads projects for Lean / Six Sigma initiatives.
- Participates and leads project improvement Kaizens.
- Provides capital equipment justifications.
- May lead technical team leads and other engineers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education And Experience Required
- 2–5 years working in a manufacturing or mechanical engineering role; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- 2+ years’ experience in a high‑precision CNC manufacturing machine shop or tooling manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in 3D modeling using SolidWorks, ProE or other CAD/CAM software for fixture development and tooling optimization.
- Fixture design and tool selection experience.
- Experience with secondary processes (welding, polishing, passivation, anodizing, heat treat, assembly) desired.
- Lean manufacturing project experience in cost reduction/process optimization required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required
- Experience in sheet metal cutting and bending, injection molding, or CNC machining.
- Strong background in Process Improvement.
- Knowledge of SPC tools and processes and cellular manufacturing.
- Blueprint reading including GD&T dimensioning.
- Problem‑solving and Root Cause analysis experience.
- Leadership skills, a team player with entrepreneurial skills.
Experience And Education Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
- Medical industry background highly preferred.
- Lean / Six Sigma methodology with Green Belt certification (preferred).
