Purpose of the Position:
We are seeking an experienced Cable/Fiber Splicer & Tester to join our growing telecom wireline team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise in fiber optic and copper cable splicing, testing, and troubleshooting for large-scale deployments. This role is critical to ensuring high-quality network builds, customer satisfaction, and on-time project delivery across multiple markets.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform cable/fiber splicing, termination, and testing for both fiber optic and copper networks. Conduct OTDR
, power meter, light source, and other industry-standard tests to ensure cable integrity and quality. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair cable issues in both aerial and underground environments. Read and interpret splicing diagrams, schematics, and work orders. Maintain accurate documentation of splicing records, test results, and project deliverables. Follow safety standards and industry best practices while working in the field. Interface with project managers and team leads to provide status updates and ensure customer deliverables are met. Support multiple markets as needed with up to 75% travel. Knowledge, Skills and Competencies Required
Proven experience as a Cable/Fiber Splicer & Tester in the telecom wireline industry. Strong technical knowledge of fiber optic and copper splicing techniques, testing equipment, and documentation standards. Ability to work independently and with teams in both aerial and underground construction environments. Familiarity with industry safety regulations and procedures. Excellent troubleshooting skills and attention to detail. Valid driver's license (company truck provided as needed). Willingness to travel between multiple markets (
Ohio, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona
). Bucket truck operation experience and CDL license preferred (not required)
Work Environment: Must work varying shifts and hours including possible mandatory overtime, weekends, and holidays. May be assigned to work out of town for varying lengths of time. Requires a valid state driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. May climb and work at elevations (e.g., from ladders, poles) exceeding 18 feet. When working aloft with ladders or other equipment with weight-capacity ratings, employees must adhere to the Company safety policy and equipment weight requirements. May work in confined spaces (e.g., attics, crawl spaces). May perform strenuous physical activities including, but not limited to lifting objects weighing over 75 pounds. May perform job activities outdoors in different weather conditions (e.g., extreme cold and/or heat, inclement weather).
Computer Equipment and Software Requirements Experience using Microsoft office suite & Outlook; Excel and Adobe Acrobat (pdf files), digital photographs (jpeg files). Education and Experience Required High School Diploma or GED/ 5+ Years of experience
