Description
The City of Geneva is seeking a Maintenance Worker to join our crew in the Public Works Department Streets Division. This position performs heavy work throughout our community, keeping it accessible and looking its best. Daily responsibilities include assisting crews with concrete and asphalt repairs, parkway restoration, landscape and hardscape maintenance, sign maintenance, tree planting, tree removals/pruning, snow and ice removal, storm cleanup, and festival set-up and break-down. Including but not limited to: Maintain and repair City roadway infrastructure: pavement, asphalt, sidewalks, etc. Perform parkway restoration, maintain and repair streetscape, hardscape, and landscape treatments requiring debris removal, mowing, weed whipping, planting, pruning, seeding, fertilizing, brick and cement work, irrigation installations and repairs. Respond to storm cleanup, including after-hours emergency calls. Perform snow and ice removal from streets and sidewalks during winter months - CDL required. Assist with City landscaping initiatives, in compliance with arborist standards and guidelines: tree planting, pruning, and removal in City parkways. Conduct tree removal and chipping with crew when necessary, ensure the safety of overhead trees and brush for residents and in public spaces. Set mulch. Perform set-up, break-down, and clean-up for City festivals, including setting out trash boxes, putting out barricades, putting up banners, and breaking down/cleaning up same at completion of festival. Perform sign installation and repair of street signs, pavement markings and striping. Assemble and maintain streetscape furniture, including park benches and trash receptacles. Work as a flagger for crews working in traffic.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience: Completion of high school or equivalent; and, Experience using basic maintenance tools; or, Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions.
Licenses and Certifications: Must possess a valid Illinois Class A Commercial Driver's License with the appropriate Classifications and Tanker Endorsements as specified by the Department Head within six months of hire date. The hours for this position are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday. The work is primarily performed outdoors in a range of weather conditions. As mentioned above, this position is subject to emergency and after-hours callback, primarily on a rotating basis.
