Meter Reading Technician

Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of this position is to accurately read water meters and record consumption levels. Clean meter boxes and remove vegetation that may obstruct access to the meters. Report findings to the Customer Service Supervisor. Engage in manual work by taking readings of meter dials and entering the data into a handheld device or laptop. Perform general maintenance tasks on meter boxes, including the removal of sand, debris, and some vegetation for better access. Travel on established routes, either by walking or driving a vehicle, to read meter dials. Report any issues such as damaged boxes, obstructions, water leaks, or irregular dial readings to the billing department. Establish communication with the billing department regarding safety concerns involving wildlife (e.g., dogs, snakes) that hinder access to meters. Complete re-read service orders to verify readings when consumption appears abnormal, noting possible reasons for fluctuations. Document and report any instances of illegal water usage to the billing department. Adhere to all safety procedures, rules, and regulations, utilizing all necessary safety equipment. Engage in related work as required, including special projects and assistance to the division as needed. Work is primarily outdoors and involves frequent interaction with members of the public.
