Payroll Manager
We are seeking an experienced payroll leader to oversee payroll operations for a growing, multi-state organization. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and enjoys building efficient, compliant, and scalable payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations, maintaining current knowledge of legislative changes and best practices. Design, document, and refine payroll workflows to improve consistency, efficiency, and audit readiness. Partner with HR, Finance, and business leaders to align payroll processes with organizational needs and ensure smooth system integrations. Support acquisitions by leading payroll onboarding for new employees and harmonizing processes across entities. Manage the calculation and distribution of payroll, including off-cycle adjustments such as manual checks and voids. Oversee payroll accounting, reconciliations, and reporting, providing insights to senior leadership through recurring and ad hoc analysis. Serve as the main escalation point for payroll issues, driving timely and accurate resolutions. Administer retirement plan contributions (401k), ensuring proper funding, compliance, and reconciliations. Lead or support special projects, including new system implementations, policy updates, audits, and compensation-related reviews. Identify opportunities to streamline payroll operations and champion process improvements across the organization. What We're Looking For
7+ years of recent payroll management/supervisory experience handling multi-site, multi-state payrolls. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred but not required. Hands-on payroll operations background with strong knowledge of payroll and accounting principles. Proficiency with ADP (EV5/EV6 strongly preferred); experience with timekeeping systems (e-Time or similar) required. Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet strict deadlines. Collaborative communicator with the ability to partner effectively across departments. Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information with integrity and discretion. Flexible, proactive, and solutions-oriented, with a strong work ethic and willingness to adapt in a changing environment. Domestic travel required.
