Overview
The Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer is a key player in our team, providing essential support for projects focused on the installation, testing, and enhancement of z/OS operating systems and system software. Your role will involve maintaining and debugging systems software while collaborating with diverse technical teams such as CICS, Database, Network, and Hardware/Storage.
Position Summary
In this role, you will research and evaluate new software and hardware products, assist team members with technical inquiries, and monitor system performance. This position emphasizes your functional knowledge and use of z/OS components, alongside a thorough understanding of supporting products such as tape management, scheduling, and security systems.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the installation and maintenance of Mainframe Systems Infrastructure software, including z/OS and ISV products.
Resolve incidents and problems efficiently.
Configure and customize systems as needed.
Set up necessary parameters for optimal performance.
Communicate effectively with vendors.
Participate in and contribute to various technical projects.
Utilize in-depth knowledge of z/OS and related software products.
Handle PARMLIB configuration and JES2 customization tasks.
Support problem-solving and implement changes in z/OS environments.
Utilize advanced skills in TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and JCL.
Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Lead the coordination of multi-disciplinary groups during problem-solving endeavors.
Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Qualifications
To be a strong candidate for this position, please meet the following required qualifications:
At least 10 years of experience in a mainframe environment within a large enterprise.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
Expertise in z/OS installation and maintenance, including SMP/E.
Advanced knowledge of TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and JCL.
Strong understanding of Unix System Services (USS) and its file system management and security.
Experience in installing software within USS.
Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
Capability to handle stress during major incidents and emergency situations.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proven customer service skills and the ability to collaborate with various teams.
Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong planning and organizational skills with an analytical problem-solving approach.
Ability to demonstrate initiative and eagerness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency as a Mainframe System Programmer.
Experience with complex ISV installations and project leadership.
Mentorship capabilities and leadership qualities.
Knowledge of z/OS security measures.
Understanding of z/OS systems programming functions and familiarity with DB2, CICS, or IMS.
Knowledge of z/OS services structure, Parallel Sysplex, and catalog management.
