Actual starting salary may be dependent on applicant qualifications and experience. Description We are hiring for experienced Wastewater Utility Technicians only. Must have 2 years of related work experience and either a Class C Water License; or Wastewater Collections II License; or Wastewater Treatment Class C License. Base pay is as follows: Utility Technician II: $24.97 Utility Technician III: $27.05 Utility Technician IV: $29.13
Additional certification and license pay available: CDL, Heavy Equipment, education pay, BPAT, Welder, Plumber, and additional water and wastewater licenses to name a few. The Utility Technician II is responsible for performing general maintenance and construction duties as required for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the City's Wastewater Collection System - including wastewater mains, service lines, cleanouts, manholes, lift stations, etc. Additional duties include operating equipment and completing other projects which could include concrete and carpentry work, landscaping and road work. This position will be required to participate in the On-Call Rotation schedule and must live within forty-five (45) minutes of the Buda Public Works facility to respond to emergency calls. This position is considered essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency events.
Examples of Duties
Maintains sewer lines, sanitary sewer lift stations and equipment by restoring flow, removing and replacing manhole lids, loading and transporting materials and equipment to the job site, opening holes to determine leaks, and laying pipe as required. Operates motor drive equipment and vehicles necessary to perform the duties of the department, including but not limited to backhoe, excavator, front end loader, vactor truck, and sewer camera inspection unit. Loads and unloads materials by transporting and operating equipment and performs preventive maintenance. Repairs and maintains sewer lines by exposing pipes, setting up road signs and cones, and directing traffic. Cleans, maintains, and properly stores tools and equipment; performs minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment; performs metal fabrication/welding and small engine repair. Communicates with contractors, customers, distributors, and engineers. Utilizes work order software system to complete work orders as well as inventory management of assets. May perform in a leader role occasionally on select jobs. Available for after hours on call Performs other related job duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications Education and Experience:
High School Diploma; and at least two (2) years of work experience in related field.
Special Qualifications:
Valid State of Texas CDL driver's license desired. TCEQ Wastewater Collections II license with 2 years' experience. Knowledge of SCADA software desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of department policies, practices, and procedures, including but not limited to all safety and security procedures. Skilled operational knowledge, experience, and familiarity with all Public Works machinery and equipment including, but not limited to backhoe, excavator, front end loader, vactor truck, and sewer camera inspection unit, etc. Ability to perform a variety of construction, repair, and maintenance tasks. Perform a wide variety of physically strenuous tasks. Read, interpret, and understand blueprints and construction drawings. Assist in training personnel. Computer skills - Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office and data entry; use of small office equipment, including copy machines and multi-line telephone. Ability to access computer/smartphone to access email, work orders and timesheets. Ability to maintain records related to the wastewater collection system. Ability to analyze problems, plan solutions, and communicate effectively. Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to supervisor direction; takes responsibility for own actions, and is consistently at work and on time. Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment; able to deal with frequent change, unexpected events, or emergency situations.

The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects and the following physical abilities: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
