Position Overview
As an Operations Supervisor, you'll play a key leadership role in driving the success of our daily food scrap recycling operations. You will oversee a dedicated team of Drivers, Lead Drivers, Collection Helpers, and Route Planners; ensuring all collection routes are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. Your focus will include delivering exceptional customer service, promoting safety, maintaining fleet standards, and continuously improving operational performance. Beyond daily operations, you'll support the growth and career development of your team while collaborating with other departments to help shape a cleaner, more sustainable future.
Key Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent At least three years experience in transportation, logistics, waste management operations or similar field At least one year experience with significant responsibility for commercial driver supervision, training, coaching and performance assessment Drivers license in good standing Driving record that meets Compost Crew standards Safety-first/Quality-first leadership skills Capacity to lead diverse teams of individuals to perform at their best Customer service/Communication/Collaboration skills Driver recruitment and training skills Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment Ability to apply policy and procedures appropriately, fairly and consistently Ability to communicate and troubleshoot truck maintenance issues/Enforce fleet maintenance programs Behavior that meets ethical standards Ability to problem-solve, use good judgment and make sound decisions efficiently Availability to work schedule that typically starts at 5 am and finished in mid-afternoon Schedule flexibility in meeting operational needs United States employment authorization Other Helpful Background

Team Leadership
Foster a work environment at assigned site(s) that maximizes employee involvement, teamwork, morale and engagement through motivational leadership Ensure team members adhere to schedules, work standards and company policies Lead/administer position-based orientation, training and communication, including daily team meetings and preparation for new customers Manage beginning-of-day and end-of-day processes, including observation and coaching of team members Conduct weekly route observations/assessments Assess performance and recommend compensation actions for team members Review GeoTab recordings to identify safety events Proactively maintain safety for employees, customers and community members Lead root cause investigations for injuries and incidents, with primary responsibility for team- and site-based corrective action Ensure Drivers comply with physicals, drug or alcohol tests, and training required by regulatory agencies Assess candidates for team positions and make selection recommendations Support career development and address performance/conduct gaps of team members Occasionally fill in for Drivers or Helpers as needed Customer-Focused Analysis, Planning and Service
Analyze key site operations data Plan routes to meet business, safety and customer requirements, using feedback from team members and other departments Support optimization of routes and dispatching Evaluate quality of service provided to customers Adapt and apply procedures to minimize customer complaints and ensure long-term customer retention Visit customers and customer sites to evaluate and resolve outstanding issues related to safety, service or new customer experience Ensure corrective action is implemented to prevent and recover from missed pick-ups Identify service alternatives where appropriate Site Leadership
Ensure that site is organized, safe and clean Assist Fleet Management in fleet maintenance and management of fleet vendor relationships Maintain inventory and storage in addition to occasionally transporting supplies and vehicles Protect company assets at site Minimize contamination for scraps collected on site routes Ensure that all operations tasks are completed on timely basis Lead continuous improvement initiatives at site Lead response to non-routine operational events at site, escalating as appropriate Collaborate with other departments such as Sales, Customer Service and Composting to meet shared goals Schedule
Work typically starts Monday - Friday at 5 am and ends in the mid afternoon. There is a rotating weekend on-call schedule. Work may sometimes be required at other times.
Travel
Travel throughout the DMV region may be required during the work day. Overnight travel is not required.
