Substation P&C Designer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers Member of WSP, is currently seeking a Substation P&C Designer in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Freeport, Maine office. An in-office and/or hybrid work environment is available for this position. A remote role may be considered depending on the individual's level of experience and proven ability to work on a remote basis successfully.
Role and Responsibilities
Perform detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations
Perform detailed design of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, protection schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA and communications
Familiar with conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, AC/DC service calculations and selection of substation equipment
The successful candidate shall be able to contribute to substation equipment specifications, proposal development, and project scheduling
Occasional travel will be required
Required Education/Experience
Ability to function as a Substation P&C Designer in our Freeport, Maine office
Associate's degree or equivalent technical education
Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation; experience with both is preferred
Understanding of electric utility substation design
Electrical and mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail
Good command of the Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Excel and Word
The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design
Familiarity with Raster Design and "brownfield" (retrofit) design processes
Familiarity with databases and database design
Familiarity with Autodesk Vault (or other Document Management Systems)
Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, vendor drawings, and such
Ability to select materials based on technical requirements
