Job Title: Forklift Operator

Job Description

As a Forklift Operator, you will be responsible for pulling orders efficiently to ensure timely shipment to customers. You will manage various shipping functions and move parts within the market area to assembly lines and finished goods areas. Additionally, you will supply weld cells with necessary parts and materials for final assembly and move finished racks and parts to designated areas in the plant.

Responsibilities

Inspect racks for damage during unloading and cleaning, and remove old labels from empty racks.

Examine shipments for damaged or improperly adjusted racks to prevent part damage.

Inspect trailers for items that may cause damage before loading.

Pack service parts to prevent damage during transportation, following available packaging instructions.

Ensure bar code labels on racks match part numbers and are in good condition for scanning.

Pull parts from stock in FIFO order for all shipment staging.

Learn and practice proper material handling functions, supplying correct parts to assembly lines.

Report production when picking up and setting down racks.

Essential Skills

Experience with forklift, material handling, and sit-down forklift operations.

3-4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Ability to lift 50 lbs without mechanical assistance.

Good basic math knowledge.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent organization and coordination skills.

Must successfully complete tow motor training and certification prior to job move.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with tow motor, pallet jack, production, and order picking.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience stacking racks with a forklift.

Work Environment

The work environment is an automotive manufacturing setting where you will be onsite, working as part of a Just In Time facility. Due to space constraints, high skill levels are required for navigating narrow forklift paths. The plant involves robotic welding, resulting in a smokey atmosphere with sparks. Shift hours are flexible, with potential overtime based on demand. The facility operates around the clock to meet increased volumes.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smyrna, Tennessee.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.86 - $19.86/hr.
