The
National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE)
is the international testing agency for the chiropractic profession. The NBCE develops, administers, and scores standardized exams that assess knowledge, higher-level cognitive abilities, and problem-solving in various basic science and clinical science subjects.
What do we do?
NBCE exams offer assurance to the general public that a chiropractor, regardless of what school they attended or where they were licensed, has demonstrated a baseline of knowledge as well as ability in diagnosis, diagnostic imaging, principles of chiropractic, associated clinical sciences, and chiropractic practice. Candidates typically take NBCE exams before graduating from chiropractic college. Exam scores are made available to licensing authorities within and outside the United States. In the U.S., all 50 states either accept or require candidates to pass Parts I, II, III, and IV for licensure.
ROLE SUMMARY:
The Benefits & Payroll Specialist is responsible for key Human Resources (HR) functions, including benefits and leave administration, payroll administration, and compliance with federal, state, and local laws. This role ensures accuracy, timeliness, confidentiality, and efficiency in HR operations, contributing to a positive staff experience and the overall success of the organization.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Benefit & Leave Administration
Administer employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, wellness, and voluntary coverages. Maintain benefit-related records and documents. Assist with the administration of the 401(k) retirement plan. Support staff onboarding by conducting benefits orientation and providing necessary assistance with staff members' enrollments. Coordinate annual Benefits Open Enrollment and support staff during the Open Enrollment process. Ensure coverages and rates are correct in Employee Navigator (EN) and the NBCE Benefits Guide. Monitor staff eligibility for benefits. Input enrollments, changes, and cancellations in carrier portals which are not integrated with EN. Review staff life events and verify eligibility by obtaining supporting documentation to substantiate the changes. Verify billing accuracy, ensure invoices correctly reflect currently enrolled staff and document invoices accordingly, and process all carrier's and other benefit-related provider invoices in Concur. Prepare year-end tax and reports, including Form 5500, Form 1094 & 1095, and Form 720. Manage leave of absence programs including Colorado Paid Family & Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI), Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other statutory or company specific leaves, ensuring proper documentation and compliance. Track and monitor staff leaves coordinating with staff, managers and supervisors, and third-party administrators. Calculate and input paid time off supplements into Paylocity, as requested. Ensure proper payments to staff from third-party administrators and/or supplements through Payroll. Payroll
Maintain staff payroll and records, review time reports for accuracy, and process the bi-weekly payroll through Paylocity. Process payroll accurately and on time, ensuring proper calculation of wages, deductions, and taxes, and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner. Produce and submit special payroll-related payments and reports to the government and other agencies as required. Administer garnishments, direct deposits, Health Savings Account (H.S.A.) transactions, and other payroll-related functions. Coordinate with the Finance team to ensure payroll data aligns with company financial records. Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding payroll, providing excellent customer service and resolving issues promptly. Compliance
Prepare and submit required reports and other compliance-related documentation, and pay fees, as applicable, in a timely manner. Ensure Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) and other Plan documents are up to date, posted, and disseminated as required. Assist with internal and external audits to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and respond to regulatory agencies when requested. Perform annual compliance testing for health and retirement plans. Stay updated on changes in employment laws and regulations. Professional Development
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending job-related conferences and reviewing professional publications, broker and carrier provided information, and other HR-related resources. Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Five (5) + years of human resources experience with a focus on benefits administration and compliance. Five (5) + years of payroll processing experience. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Strong knowledge of and experience with benefits- and leave-related employment laws and compliance regulations (i.e., ERISA, CAA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ADA, USERRA, PDA, PWFA, Colorado FAMLI, and FMLA). Proficiency in HRIS and payroll software (e.g., Paylocity, Workday, ADP). Intermediate experience in MS Office - Outlook, Word, and Excel - or similar software. Possess office administration skills, knowledge, and experience in general office procedures and use of general office equipment. Excellent written and oral communication, organizational, and time-management skills with keen attention to detail and strong analytical skills. Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. May require occasional travel for training, conferences, or other meetings. Valid Colorado driver's license and satisfactory driving record. Eligibility to work in the U.S. for any employer. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional certification (i.e., SHRM or HRCI) is a plus.
