Department of Communication Assistants Summary of Job Duties
The University of Arkansas Department of Communication has an opening for an Hourly Virtual Reality Environment Developer. The person in this position will provide research assistance to support the development of immersive virtual environments while also supporting day-to-day lab operations, including deploying builds, setting up hardware, and helping run research sessions. The assistant will work under the supervision of faculty at the Center for Communication Research (CCR) at the Department of Communication and collaborate with the research team to ensure the technical implementation aligns with the project's objectives. This is a part-time position working an anticipated 7 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree or equivalent Basic knowledge of Unity Engine Introductory coding skills (e.g., C#, Python) Comfortable with hands?on technical tasks (software installs, device setup) An understanding of VR/XR?specific development principles
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience developing VR applications or interactive/game design (through coursework, personal projects, or research) Familiarity with handling 3D assets in Unity, such as building simple environments and/or optimizing models and textures. Familiarity with VR hardware (Meta Quest, SteamVR, or similar)
Salary Information
